
SUMMER SWIM LESSONS
The Cities of Buellton and Solvang are partnering to offer a swim lesson program at the Santa Ynez Union High School Pool from June 15-July 31. Register below for your preferred session. Please note that we reserve the right to move participants into the level most appropriate for their skills.
Participants can cancel and receive a full refund with one week's notice.

Beginner Level 1
Requirements to join this class:
-
Must be at least 2 years old on the first day of class.
Description:
-
Introduction to the water
-
No experience required
-
Parent or Guardian may participate (may enter small pool, may sit at the side of the big pool)
-
Focus on teaching respect for the water and water safety
-
Lots of Play
-
Acclimation to the water/overcoming fear of the water
Goals:
-
Learn to get the head and entire body wet
-
Demonstrate listening and following instructions from the teacher
-
Learn pool rules and water safety principles and procedures
-
Participate in the class without a parent or guardian
-
Blow bubbles and/or hold breath and submerge

Beginner Level 2
Requirements to join this class:

Must be at least 2 years old on the first day of class
-
Must be at potty trained or have a toileting routine
-
Must be able to participate without parent or guardian assistance
-
Must be able to listen and follow directions (remain on the stairs when it is not the participant’s turn)
-
Must be able to enter the water at the staircase unassisted
Description:
-
Students who are now comfortable with the water will begin to learn key skills that serve as the building blocks for swim strokes
-
Continued focus on water safety
Goals:
-
Blow Bubbles
-
Fully submerge
-
Float on back, unassisted
-
Float on front, unassisted
-
Recover from floating position to standing
-
Flutter kick
-
Scoop water with the hands
-
Exit pool unassisted at the stairs and at the wall

Swimming Fundamentals
Requirements to join this class:
-
Must be at least 2 years old on the first day of class
-
Must be at potty trained or have a toileting routine
-
Must be able to participate without parent or guardian assistance
-
Must be able to listen and follow directions (remain on the stairs when it is not the participant’s turn)
-
Must be able to enter the water at the staircase unassisted
-
Must be able to float on back unassisted for 10 seconds and recover to standing
-
Must be able to float on stomach for 5 seconds unassisted and recover to standing
-
Must be able to fully submerge while holding breath
Description:
-
Learning to move through the water purposefully
-
Continued focus on water safety, particularly when swimmers cannot rely on the wall or floor
Goals:

Learn streamline position
-
Glide in streamline
-
Flutter kick in steamline
-
Front crawl stroke
-
Dolphin Kick
-
Breaststroke kick
-
Elementary back stroke
-
Retrieve object from the bottom of the pool

Jump into the pool and recover to the wall

Introduce treading water

Bobbing while moving forward
